Now that the holidays are officially here, you may be wondering how to modify your diet and stay on track with your fitness goals. Even though it can be tempting to overindulge during feasting season, there are some things you can do to ward off holiday weight gain and keep your diet on track.
Making time to hit the gym a few days a week, preparing your meals ahead of time, and avoiding late-night snacks can prevent some of that holiday weight gain.
Here are some tips for staying fit and healthy during the holidays:
Be Prepared to Work Out on the Go
Be prepared to work out in your hotel room or get a week’s pass to a gym when you are traveling. Making some time to keep up with your workout routine will make it much easier to keep yourself on a healthy track and avoid a calorie overload. You might even consider doing exercise DVDs or signing up for an online membership where you can get some workout routines to download to your computer.
Make Time for Relaxation
The holidays can be a stressful time of year and adding the anxiety about working out can make things even more tense. Make time for rest and relaxation so that your body can recover properly and so you can actually enjoy the festivities. Making time for a massage, relaxing at home, or even meditating can make it easier to enjoy the holidays and stay in shape. Too much stress leads to cortisol production which can lead to fat storage. Take the time to de-stress so that you aren’t likely to gain weight easily.
Pack for Your Workouts
Don’t forget to pack some workout gear and other workout basics while traveling so you don’t have any excuses to skip the gym. You can pack your favorite workout gear in a travel bag, carry-on bag, or travel tote so that you can just pick up and get your workout done wherever you are. Keeping at least one or two outfits on hand will make it much easier to get through the holidays while keeping your fitness a high priority.
